Microsoft Office for free? Yes, you read that right. In a world where most basic applications and services are available on a paid program, Microsoft keeps its Office suite free to use. As part of this free MS Office suite, you have access to Word, Powerpoint, Excel, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams – all without paying any money. Tempted?
But who is this free version of MS Office for? If you have recently bought a Windows laptop that comes with the MS Office suite pre-installed and activated for one user, you don’t need to know this. However, those who haven’t can attain the full Windows experience with the free MS Office. Is there a caveat? Sadly, yes.
Microsoft Office: What is the free version?
Microsoft still charges annual fees for its MS Office applications; this provides the classis full-on MS Office experience like we are used for years. However, the free version requires you to be connected to the web, just like you would with Google Docs and Sheets.
In fact, the MS Office online version, mainly known as the Office 365, is similar to the Google suite of productivity apps. And it also shares the same issues that we have had with online productivity apps.
