8 years after its announcement, Dead Island 2 could finally release this year – Video Games Chronicle

Dead Island 2 is still in active development at Dambuster Studios and could release this year, it’s claimed.

That’s according to industry insider Tom Henderson, who claims in a YouTube video that he’s been speaking to people close to the game’s development and that it’s reportedly in a good state.

“According to everyone that I’ve been speaking to… the game decent state and it could be announced pretty soon with some kind of gameplay trailer,” he said.

“A release date expected to be somewhere in Q4 2022, possibly leading up to next year if there is any problems with the development cycle.”

Henderson also provided some insight into the game’s plot and the beginning of the game.

“You’re on a plane and there’s a zombie outbreak on a plane… eventually the plane crashes into Hollywood, you survive and it’s then your job to survive on the ground.”

Dead Island 2 was first announced in 2014, and has since suffered a series of delays and changes of developer.

Originally developed by Yager Development, the game was then taken over by Sumo Digital. In 2019, Dambuster, an internal studio of Deep Silver took over the development of the game.

When the game was first revealed, the plot was said to revolve around the United States Armed Forces putting California under quarantine.

In 2020, a leaked version of the game said to be from 2015, made its way online.
